This film ‘Chambal’ has the major inspiration from the real life bureaucrat DK Ravi life. The sad end of IAS officer was much talked about. The end of DK Ravi life was because of pressure he committed suicide – investigation team closed his case. The gossip mill has something else. The reality check was not precisely made was a section of people observation.

What we have read in newspapers and life sketch of DK Ravi is given cinematic feel but nowhere he is shown as super human on silver screen. Jacob Verghese collection of data and giving cinematic opinion might bring some satisfaction to followers of DK Ravi.

We have a Khadak and sincere bureaucrat Subash who gets Shabash for his intelligent and daring piece of work. Posted at Kolara, the sand mafia he wages a war bring in shock waves to ministers and politicians, Subhas is posted to Tax department of Karnataka state where he functions with more brilliance.

He knows he has to crack very hard elements. He seeks the latest gadget for his house too and conducts the raids when the ministers are in meeting. The huge haul he cracks is a death knell to builders and land owners.

The separate team is working on the other side to put down this honest officer. For the gadgets that Subash applies, a hacker is brought in, a killer facing hang till death punishment is given task and another alert works out strategy.

Next what you see is cinematic presentation of the end of Subash in his duty and that too in his own house he is declared committed suicide.

Ninasam Satish has remained near perfect to his role of a bureaucrat. He has not over acted or under played in his role. Like how the honest IAS officer DK Ravi lived, Satish is honest to his role.

Achyuth Kumar, Sardar Sathya, Roger Narayan, Kishor and Sonu Gowda roles are well designed. Girija Lokesh telling the story of ‘Vamana Avatara’ in the beginning is a right preparation to watch the film ‘Chambal’.

The songs in the background are melodious and cinematography is absorbing throughout.

Whether the right investigation happened in the case of DK Ravi death or not, in cinema Chambal the truth is revealed of a respected bureaucrat – living in corruption has become habit to many in the society.

This is worth watching film. Kudos to the courage of Jacob Verghese!
